The winery offers a breathtaking view of the peaks of mount Monviso, the hills with vineyards and the Castle of Serralunga d’Alba with its remarkable narrow structure, in an iconic Italian landscape.

In 2015 the estate has been acquired by the Rossi Cairo family, which for 18 years has run the organic and biodynamic farm La Raia in Novi Ligure. Here they produce Demeter certified wines and promoting an agriculture that is not only sustainable but that also preserves the vitality of the soil for future generations to enjoy.

Thanks to this successful experience, the Rossi Cairo family decided to convert Tenuta Cucco to the principles of organic agriculture and to organize initiatives to further encourage and boost biodiversity in  that area of Barolo.

They believe that the quality of wines is determined by the quality of the environment in which they are born, for which thye as farmers have an extraordinary responsibility manifested in their daily choices and ongoing labor.

Terroir

The Tenuta Cucco vineyards stand on the most ancient portion of the very ancient territory of Barolo, implying another important privilege: an ideal altitude (about 420 masl) which ensures the best temperature for the ripening of the grapes, bringing out the tannins of Nebbiolo, while ensuring the best temperature range, which is fundamental for the ripening of the grapes.

Serralunga d’Alba is in fact one of the highest municipalities among the eleven towns of the Barolo appellation. The vineyards of Tenuta Cucco cover 13 hectares and include a number of varieties, dominated by Nebbiolo, along with Dolcetto, Chardonnay and Barbera.

The grapes of Cru Cerrati and Vigna Cucco have a long history of excellence: for centuries local winemakers have prized them for their unique qualities and characteristics, using them only to produce their finest Barolo wines.

The overall production varies from year to year, with approximately 70,000 bottles of which the largest quota is that of Barolo, from Menzione Cerrati and Bricco Voghera, and from Vigna Cucco. The vineyards range in age from 15 to over 50 years: the choice of low quantitative yield leads to very high product quality.

Wines

Tenuta Cucco is a historic winery in Serralunga d’Alba, built in the 1800s at the foot of the castle.

The wines tell the story of a village where Nebbiolo has reached the highest levels of quality across the centuries.

These are wines that embody a know-how that starts with the soil, with ancient marls, the oldest on the Barolo map, rich in tannins and polyphenols, which leave their traces in every vintage.

They are wines of the tradition, made without shortcuts, which year after year confirm their extraordinary character, also due to the choice of application of organic methods in the vineyards and the cellar.

Tenuta Cucco tells the richness of the territory and all the characteristics of the vines through a conscious and scrupulous vinification. Each label best expresses the color and taste of the wine it represents.
