L”Astemia is the winery in Barolo where the art of winemaking and design meet, creating a multisensory experience. L”Astemia brings a new vision to the Langhe.

Sandra Vezza, the Piedmontese entrepreneur with an unmistakable flair, dynamic even when still, she loves to think outside the box. Originally from Levice, a tiny village in the Alta Langa, she claims to be a teetotaller (astemia in Italian) and in 2010 decides to open an unconventional winery in Barolo.

L”Astemia is a declaration of love for her land and a return to her roots, to the times when her grandfather would walk hand in hand with her through the vineyards, teaching her the vines’ secrets.

Terroir

L''Astemia is located in Barolo, where the ridges of the Cannubi hills begin to climb towards the centre of town.

L”Astemia owns 74 acres of vineyards in the municipalities of Barolo and Monforte, where the Tiradoss hill is located. Here, wines are made mainly from native grape varieties and are intimately linked to tradition.

L”Astemia is among the producers who like to experiment with varieties that are not strictly indigenous, but which produce remarkable wines when grown on the soil of the Langhe. Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Nascetta are the indigenous grapes that we grow. Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Viognier and Chardonnay are their selected international varieties.

Wines

Viewed from the outside, the winery looks like two huge boxes: two wine cases – out of axis and out of scale - which have been turned into a building. Inside, it combines the poetry of the vineyards with a stylish, evocative decor and innovative technology, which allows for the entire production process to be carried out underground.
